ok moms, i need your advice! i hope someone has experienced this before....
i have heard of this happening, but i didn't think it would happen to me. tristan has decided he hates the bottle. i am not sure what happened. he took it great at 4 weeks and brent has given him a bottle every night since then. i leave him with pam on mondays and my parents often and he has always taken it. never liked it much. still, he took it. anyway, about 3 weeks ago, he started gradually pushing it out--drinking less and less. now he screams after an ounce. i have tried dr. brown's and avent. same for both. i also tried different flows. same thing for both. i read you can give him a sippy cup, but then will he reject me? AHH?! not fun at all.
if anyone has any advice, let me know....

NICKI I had and have this same problem. I was going nuts! Until this last week! Harry is a little older than Tristan but, I can recall him doing this fussy crying taking crying taking bit for at least a month or maybe 2.
Have you tried a faster flow nipple?
I have heard they do this when they are teething and sure enough...out popped a tooth at the height of his bottle battle. He loves the sippy cup(i am going to post it soon). We bought a in-between bottle/cup one. The brand is Nuk and they have to suck to get milk out. I don't know first hand if he will reject you but, some of my friends nursed and gave their babies sippy cups. I am not the Ann Landers of Babyland but, I can totally sympathise with the frustration you have felt about this.
I'm afraid I'm not much help with this one, but I too have heard that this is common when they are teething. I don't think I would worry too much about nipple confusion at this stage, he should be familiar enough with you that you won't have this problem, especially when you are mostly nursing. If it's not a teething issue, the only thing I can think of is that maybe using a bottle causes him more immediate indigestion? If this is the case, maybe you can try giving him a bottle in a sitting position... That's all I can think of, but I'll ask around... :)
ya'll are soo soo sweet--thank you for the words of wisdom!
aware, brent actually went and bought t a sippy like yours today. i was wondering if he may be in the beginning stages of teething. lots of drool and chewing on everything. i am glad to know that harry is taking a sippy. how old was he when he went on it? i think we may have to try it. i tried the faster flow and it was the same :(
i am hoping it is a teething stage and he outgrows it!
nic
Something else worth considering if this is a teething issue would be a little ice or numbing gel prior to the feeding so that the bottle doesn't hurt as much on his gums. You could put a small piece of ice in a wet washcloth and let him suck on that first. Just some ideas...
I just recently put him on the sippy cup. Nicki, I bet he is teething, I was in shock when his tooth came in but, all the prewarning signs were the ones of Tristan. They can teeth for a long time too...not encouraging huh?
I used Baby Orajel and tylenol.
Another thing along with what Amanda's saying is that babies can start to teeth and then stop and then start again. I can't give you much advice on the bottle issue, because Josh would give James a bottle every once in a while at the very beginning and then when he stopped taking it as well, we just decided not to try anymore. We didn't give him another one again until I stopped nursing him (I think...I'm already forgetting!). I do remember giving him a sippy cup, though, and him taking that better, but he was a lot older than T. Sorry, I know that probably wasn't much help!
i totally agree. i think he is teething. we also tried the sippy cup yesterday b/c i was away hosting a shower. he still was not that interested, but b said he took a couple of ounces from the bottle. he let him hold it in his crib and play with it and then he ate some, so who knows!! thanks everyone for being sweet and concerned. mostly, i gathered from everyone that it is pretty normal and this too shall pass!
