Work It Girl

As an avid fitness junkie, I have to say I am very impressed with all the fitness for both pre and post-natal moms there are out there. I am a little (well, a lot) disappointed to see that my hometown does not offer any of these kinds of things. I believe it to be essential that women take care of themselves during pregnancy by working out. Let's face it ladies, these days, we are not our mother's pregnancies. Does that make sense? I am not sure, but I can bet that our mothers, or at least the majority of them, did little exercise while preggers. They were probably from the old school of "sit down and relax, don't do too much". Now, I am not saying that those who are not used to it should go run a half marathon or even a mile if they are not conditioned to it, but we have to maintain some level of strength, stabilty, and stamina to go into of all things...LABOR...can you say "ultimate physical challenge" people?! I have been reading that women who are physically active during pregnancy tend to have an easier labor. I sort of poo-poo that one, I am not sure any amount of squats will help that bowling ball mass to be any smoother coming out of us. However, I think it is beneficial for stamina, etc. At any rate, I would like to get certified for some sort of pre and post natal fitness and bring it here--how fun is that!? I am looking into the one above, the Baby Boot Camp. It looks pretty cool and I looooooove teaching, plus I am sure I will need some pep of my own come baby. PS>I found for those of you who are preggo or thinking to be that swimming is dabomb for us! Well, it is for everyone. I went two days in a row and I am sore in the most random places! I love that!
So I leave this evening with this...even if you are not pregnant, or especially if you are, even if you don't like the gym, or crazy fitness instructors (wink)....walk, or swim or bike or something. You just plain feel better!

Great to hear from you! It sounds like things are going really well for you. This comment is going along with your previous post. You were talking about Second City, and I just signed up to take an improv comedy class here in Dallas. Ha ha, it should be interesting, because I am no actor. My friend Kourtney thought it would be good for us to take as far as writing skills, and if anything, trying to understand actors better. I thought your post was ironic timing. Later!

This is soooooo weird that you said this, because I was just thinking that I would LOVE to have a class where I could bring James in and do a workout using him! I want to go to the gym, but I hate leaving him in the child-care. Of course, I'll do it, because it's worth it, but I still would rather not. PLEAAASSSEEEE get certified and bring it here!!!

Great idea to bring Baby Boot Camp closer to home (and I LOVE the name!)! Working out is so much easier to do when you have a partner (or lots) encouraging you, laughing with you, and calling you when you're slacking off.

I'm not much of a preggo fitness girl-or ever was before I got pregnant but I do love swimming! It really eases the pain in all my joints/back that is caused by all the extra weight I'm carrying around. Plus if I'm lucky and swimming in an outdoor pool I may catch a little bit of sun to make me feel better, too!
I think thats a great idea!

Nathan,
I am so jealous that you are taking that class--I think it will indeed help your writing skills! I believe comedy writers are geniuses!

L,
I am on it, girl! I have sent in my interest and someone is going to contact me to see if they can allow me to open a franchise here--I'll keep you posted...

Good! Just don't do it on Tuesdays and Thursdays (unless it's in the evenings), and I won't miss! :)

I don't know about helping labor go easier, but I definitely think it helps you recover better/quicker! So stick with your program :) I LOVED swimming when I was pregnant with Carson, and I don't really have the facility to do that here... oh well... I'll just have to walk :)

Go for it girl! I am studying for my AFAA certification (group) now and wanting to get into the hospital setting for those pre-and post baby classes. I'm here in Greenville, SC and they definitely have a few more options than Waco- but you would rock Waco if you pursued this!
