Tornado Drill
I love Texas summers. Not. They are hot, humid, gross and wicked. Far beyond the human imagination. Last night we had a tornado touch down right by our house! It was a weird sensation. We had hail and then looked at the sky. Pink. The trees were swaying to and fro. I thought, "uh-oh." So we took cover in our "safe" place. By the way. Texas homes do not possess these safe places. We have about 6 feet of hallway to sit in. But we sat there. Flashlight, pillows, blanket and two sleepy pugs. Who were marvelous tornado drill models. I kept congratulating their behavior. The tv stations had no electricity, we had no electricity. And then...the whistle. Whistling wind. I think wind is a creepy thing anyway, but it is personified with whistling. No me gusta. I heard it and I started saying prayers. All was well in the end. A lot of damage to a nearby street and some businesses. Our place withstood. Sturdy. The pecan trees took a major beating, but they are OK too. Besides the fact that we got about 3 solid hours of sleep, we were unharmed. So, it was a nice duck and cover flashback. Welcome Texas summer, welcome.

Suze,
It was crazy! As long as I have lived here, I don't really remember ever taking a tornado drill very seriously, but the other night was different!
I can definitely do without another tornado drill for a LONG time!!!
I agree, whistling wind is creepy, especially when it is whistling away roofs.
Glad you all made it through unscathed.
