Strides

I know an instructor from the Y that started a franchise called Stroller Strides. It's a mom and baby class where you power walk/run with resistance training. It all takes place early in the morning in the park. It's really fun! Tristan likes it a lot. He, of course, likes me to run full speed. That's my boy. It is nice to get out with other moms and enjoy the morning.
I would also like to tell you about my battle with Tristan and his naps. Tristan is a lovely night sleeper. I have said before, he has slept through the night since 7 weeks. However, naps have always been a struggle. He did not even sleep like most newborns do. He wanted to be awake and in the action. He came out of the womb staring and I am not kidding, it was freaky. I have to rock, pat, sing, bounce him to sleep.

"Why don't you lay him down and let him fall asleep on his own at the first sight of sleepiness?" Critics and "experts" might ask.
"Why don't YOU lay him down and let him fall asleep on his own, " I respond.
The thing is, I have devoted countless hours and weeks to that method. BA-LEVE you me, I want that to be the method we can use! You should have been at my house at those times...wasn't pretty. So, exhausted and frustrated, I realized I am going to have a difficult napper. I am cool with it. I think it shows Tristan's competitive nature .It also shows that he likes me to be physically fit for the challenge. Yesterday, as I was trying to bounce and walk him to sleep...a method that takes arm and back strength, and he would fall asleep only to quickly realize what was happening and get mad. When he gets tired he sings. Think hum meets holler. So, I started to run laps around his room. I probably did 40 or so. I was running, people. The singing got softer and softer and I guess he enjoyed it. Fell fast asleep for 2 hours. Oh the lengths you will go to....

That Stroller Strides sounds fun. Kind of like BabyBootCamp. Though I do not have kids yet, I hang out with my friend's baby alot and I've learned everything changes- and phases are only temporary. Are you going to the AFAA apex? I'm doing the yoga one in Charlotte coming up... thanks for your initial encouragement and lending me your AFAA book!

I was laughing out loud with Kevin reading your nap story. At one point, I used to jog up and down the stairs to get Savannah Grace to take naps! At least you are staying in shape! :)

What a workout (Both the stroller Strides & getting babies to sleep). When Adalie was little I had to fast walk up and down the hallway swinging her back and forth. How that is soothing I don't know. I kept thinking it was because when she was in the womb I was so active and on my feet working that she missed that comfy feeling?
Hope it naptime gets easier but if not as he grows you are going to have some major biceps!

At least you'll be in great shape! :) A good nap is worth almost any effort in my book! :)

Samuel is nap-resistant also! He does fall asleep during the day, but he doesn't sleep for too long - I guess because he's missing out on the action. If I put him in the Baby Bjorn though, he'll snooze for as long as he's in there and then wakes up when I put him down and immediately starts screaming. We call that the "alarm"!!!

That is hilarious, Nick! I can only imagine you running laps around the room with him falling asleep in your arms. What a hoot. I'm impressed that you are persevering and not giving up on the nap thing...you know your little man so well!

I always see a group of moms doing the stroller workout class at the lincoln park zoo. They look like they are getting such a great workout - I might have to borrow someone's baby for that sometime.

Looks like fun. I bet my boys would LOVE it too. We really don't do early mornings that well though.

Nikki, you are HILARIOUS!!! I found your blog link on Adriana's and thought I'd see how you are. I MISS YOU!!! It sounds like all is well in your house. These times, they are difficult, but really enjoy that little guy while you can. He will grow up so quickly, and then those frustrating times will make you chuckle...and cry!!! Love ya, girl!!!
