A New Day for Me

My first Mother's Day with T and Marmie

Brent's mom and me
Me and marmie--I was way pre-T here!
Marmie and me this past Christmas--hugely preggers

As I join the ranks of mothers everywhere, I have grown to REALLY REALLY appreciate my own mom. I just think motherhood is a blessing that comes with a lot of huge responsibility. Molding someone into a person of character is no easy task! I see now how unselfish this love is. I think back on my teenage years and cringe! I had NO idea the depth of love my mom had for me....and patience! Praise Jesus for a mother's patience. I look into my little darling's eyes and he loves me so innocently and unselfishly right now, I am cherishing every minute of that!! I also want to praise my mother-in-law for a moment. I have a great MIL. She is one of the godliest people around and has been a huge figure in my life. I feel so blessed for that. Afterall, she raised my bestest friend in the whole wide world--how can I not adore her for that? I would like to encourage anyone who maybe has issues with their MIL to shed a new light on them. They provided you with the man you love and cherish. They worked very hard to be a good mom to them! Be thankful!!!
Anyway, thanks to my mom and my mom-in-law and thanks to all moms out there. I see now the eternal task at hand and how big it is. Big and wonderful and sometimes terrible. But we'll take the good with the bad.

Nickster-
Glad your first mother's day was so special! Tristan is looking more and more like you! :)
I consider myself blessed to have a MIL I get along with so well and love so much. I know many people who don't have that. I know your MIL is wonderful too!
I got to spend time with my mom yesterday and we had a blast! Looks like y'all did the same!

Glad you had a great 1st mother's day! This is the second time I've seen pictures of Tristan wearing an outfit that James has (the other was the green turtle one). We must have the same taste!

Nicki, What great pics! Have I ever told you that you have amazing eyelashes? Your eyes are incredible!
I have to give a big AMEN to what you said about MIL. After seeing what mine went through this last year, I am convinced she is a superhero. Truly, I am thankful for her solid character, and like you said, for raising my best friend! I think MIL get a bad rap in general, but women need to stop expecting them to be perfect. They are human just like us, and we definitely can't compare them to our moms; that's just not fair to them or our sweet husbands. Granted, I understand that there are some MIL out there that have trouble letting go or whatever and it can be hard to form a relationship with them, and I am thankful that I have been spared from that. But now I am blabbing...anywhoo, just my two cents. Happy Late First Mother's Day!!

I love your blog and just started one of my own. I am friends with Amanda W (our husbands grew up together). I wanted to drop you a note b/c I also call my mom "Marmie" and have never heard anyone else use that name. Your photo below is beautiful...I'll have to come out to Texas when I have kids just to use that photographer!

katie,
did you get the name from 'little women'? i never heard of anyone calling their mom that either except us! how great! i think it is so unique--i wanted tristan to call her that, but i think it is too hard to say for littles and it would turn into "mommy"! we can only have one mommy!

Yes...we got the name from "Little Women"!! My niece calls her "marmie" and calls my sister "momma" since it sounded too much like "mommy". Too funny!!! I read your reply about your husband owning the home-health agency and I found yet another thing in common....I taught aerobics 3 years in grad school! Kickboxing was my fav!

Nicki,

I was an AO-Pi at ASU. No, I do not teach now...but really miss it!! I haven't heard of turbokick, but it sounds fun!!

Nicki...Happy 1st Mother's Day with many more to come!! I feel the same way as you about MILs. They so get a bad rap, but I just adore mine and feel like we have so much in common, not to mention one very special guy!! Great post.

Tristan is looking so grown up in the pictures! I think it's great that you guys live close enough to your parents and in-laws to get to see them often. I can't wait for my parents to move here!!!
